Livescribe said that its new dektop software allows customers to upload their notes and audio captured with a Livescribe smartpen directly to their Evernote account. Consumers can select notes and audio from within Livescribe Desktop to import to their default folder within their Evernote account. They can opt to send pages of notes, the accompanying audio sessions or both to their Evernote account.

Signs a $39M Funding Deal for its Smartpens

Livescribe announced it has raised $39 million in a third round of funding to further build the market for its Echo and Pulse smartpens, which have tiny computers inside them. Crosslink Capital led the round, joined by Scale Venture Partners, Qualcomm, TransLink Capital, Presidio Ventures, Keating Capital and existing investors VantagePoint Venture Partners, Lionhart, and Aeris Capital. Michael Stark of Crosslink and Rory O’Driscoll of Scale will join Livescribe’s board. Livescribe’s technology is licensed from Anoto.

Livescribe lures developers to make apps for “pen-computing”

Livescribe has recently loaded two applications onto the Pulse to whet the appetite of other developers. One is a translation app that lets the user to, for example, write the word “please” on a piece of paper, set the pen to translate to Spanish and hear the words “por favor” come from the pen’s speaker and see them spelled out on a display screen. With the other app, the user draws the lines for sheet music on the page and fills in notes for the keys of A, B, C, etc. The pen’s built-in camera recognizes where the notes are on the paper and plays those notes through the speaker
